This is me at the Stockholm Marathon 30.05.2014, entering the Olympic Stadium and running into the home straight........... :) :) :) ....seems appropriate tonight.........entering the home straight!!!!! “500 MILES TO INDEPENDENCE “ Started 15.08.2014 …….. now 12.09.2014……6 days to go……. Just in from another lovely evening run (finished in Darkness), the continuation of…. “500 miles to Independence” ….spoke to some lovely German people, a couple back from rough camping in Skye (WAW) ….great support from a couple of hen parties in the Grassmarket …….spoke to a nice guy needing £12 for a night in a Hostel (nae money on me :( ) ……a good chat with a lovely Italian girl who is Undecided…..great support…..no abuse tonight :) …….with the polls showing YES and NO neck and neck, I allowed myself to dream when running along the canal, arriving at the castle, beautifully lit in darkness. Stunning. I continue to dream……Independence? ….I still think….. “aathing mak it richt-like” 12.09.14 I have now run 29 of my 34 runs for Independence. (with my ‘banked 70 miles from July) that’s now a total of 450 miles. …….6” for every NO and YES voter in the country (democracy rules) and I will complete the 34 with ease. I feel incredibly strong and positive. Today ( I am now on Holiday from work for a week) I started running for the ‘Undecided’ …..PLEASE be positive………..those of you still making up your mind………tomorrow and Sunday I will run on Arthur’s Seat, love that……. fantastic views across Scotland and loads o people..... 27.08.2014……….I have now done 12 of my 34 runs for Independence. I am fit and healthy still and will continue through to my 34th Half Marathon on the eve of the Referendum. J Written on 15.08.2014………today I did my first of 34 Half Marathons in 34 days. That’s 6 inches (showing my age) for every person living in Scotland. WHY? I am an ordinary bloke, relatively politically unsophisticated. It has been said that on the morning of the 19th September, the worst thing would be not to have done all that you could have done for what you believe in. I believe in an Independent Scotland. This is my contribution. I will be voting YES on the 18th September. (….for my very good friend and sometimes running partner Chris….a bit of a distance nit-picker….note the following. I bagged 70 miles in July by doing 10 miles a day for 7 days = 70 miles…to test my fitness and it felt fine. Starting today and for 34 days I will run 13.1 miles each day. So 70 + 34 x 13.1 = 515.4, 15.4 to cover Chris’s nit-picking! I will use Garmin to evidence the runs. ) I will be running with my Saltire YES running vests and hope to engage with many people on the way. Every run will finish at the Scottish Parliament Building. An opportunity to talk with anyone that wants to talk. One general theme is that of creating a ‘Fitter for the Future Scotland’. My personal goal will be to get down to 10 stone by the 18th September. J……keep you posted on that too. Today is non-political. Today my run is in celebration of the wedding of Jack and Ola. I wish them all the very, very best with everything in their future life together. They are a beautiful couple. Also a big THANK-YOU to everyone who organised and attended the wonderful occasion of their wedding at Sw. Klemens Church, Ustron, Poland on August 9th 2014. It was incredible. J Robert Thomson 13.08.2014 NB ….. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS IN WHATEVER WAY YOU WANT.
