This is me having fun in the old neighborhood at the infamous Coral Reef Park!! In this very spot and 1001 others, I participated in a million and one activities; I have one of my earliest memories of Coral Reef Park right where I stood; actually, Pre-Coral Reef Park. . .I first ran these grounds with my 3 older brothers and father before they were Coral Reef Park. There were piles of dirt, rock and fill. We called them hills because there was growth on them. My next memory of this very spot was treading through chest-high water. In the early years of the park there was terrible drainage and every time there was a heavy rain, the whole field flooded with water and it lasted for a few days and kids came from everywhere and wed swim there all day and play kill the man with the ball’ and trip over bicycles that we couldnt see under the water. After a couple of days it would turn into mud! No problem. Also in this video, is the famous Coral Reef Park Bridge, where we spent summer days jumping off of it into the canal and playing “rag tag” (two dirty, holy socks tied together in a clumpy knot) for hours. One summer, someone dumped an old car in there and another summer they pulled a ladies dead body of it. . .didn’t stop us. This bridge was also home to the infamous shaving cream fights that occurred every year on the last day of school. Hundreds of kids covered in shaving cream would converge on the bridge and jump into the canal; pure bliss!! We also did a lot of dancing at this park; especially at summer camp. The sound track for this video, I recorded live on my phone while watching this in real time. It’s inspired by the song “Pac Man Fever”, the first song ever composed and named after a video game to hit the Billboard Top 100 (#9 on the charts: 2.5 million records sold). It’s safe to say, there was some serious dancing that went down at Coral Park and some of it happened to “Pac Man Fever”. The difference back then though, was that when it came to a competition between playing outside and Playing video games; Coral Reef Park was the clear winner.
