This is my buddy Arridson. He has such a brilliant smile, yet his story is so heart-breaking. He represents a large group of children in Haiti who have very little, here is his story: Arridsons father died, and one day he woke up and his mother was gone. One of his neighbors took him in, and rather than treating him like their other children, Arridson has been mistreated and abused. They feed him very little, and give him some clothes so that to outsiders looking in, it seems like hes being taken care of. But in reality, he is being worked as a slave. The week prior to the NYU team going to Haiti, our Forward Edge Coordinator, Jeff met a young girl who was in a similar situation as Arridson. She had to buy 15 bags of cement and carry them all up the mountain like terrain of Meyotte, Haiti, to their house, one by one. Whats terrible about these situations is that these children arent put in school, so the same cycle of no education and poverty is continuing. And many of them may not know what true love is, just because of their circumstances. While we were on the work site, Arridson stayed around and even played Frisbee with some of our team members. He was so happy and it was as if he was a child with no pain or hardships. What was difficult for me was leaving him behind. He was convinced that he was gonna go home with us, and that we were gonna take care of him. The realization that we couldnt do this hit me like a ton of bricks, and opened my eyes to see the reality of the hardships of Arridson, and many others like him all over the world. But Im standing on the promises that prayer changes things, so join me in lifting up Arridson, and the many others like him all over the world!
