This is my confession. I grew up in an very affluent all white suburbia. Before the age of 25, my entire understanding of my black brothers came from rap music (big Naughty By Nature fan), the news & goofball comedies. I feared yall. I crossed the street. I avoided talking to yall. I was downright petrified of every black youth & yes, I would call myself a racist because the fact that I had no idea what it was like to walk in yalls shoes. I know there are lots of people from my past that are stuck thinking this way. That is a major problem in America. It shows itself at Ferguson. Fear promotes racism. It promotes quick judgement & violence. If we have never sat down & talked to people or attended a funeral service for a fallen brother or sat at their table or chilled on their block then we, as white folk, will continue to think that every black man is a threat to our bodily existence. Americans, all of us, black & white, need to reach out & be courageous, go & talk with people, get a cold drink at an uncomfortable place, attend a church service, go out & seek conversation because we have a lot to gain from understanding each other. #PrayforPeace #MadeWithAMission
