This is my latest e-mail to customers. I still have a few to send out, so some of you may see it here before you see it in your in-box. My plans on Sunday Nov. 17 was to write this e-mail, but news of the devastation in the Pekin/Washington IL. side tracked me. My thoughts and prayers go out to these folks who for some, have lost everything materialistic they owned in the world, yet others lost even more, some lost their lives. I know that a lot of the Central IL. Shops are doing sew-ins and collecting items such as pillowcases, quilts, hats and scarves which are all very needful and useful items and I praise their efforts in the relief. Such a wonderful response the public is giving, love the way the quilting community pulls together!!!! Our shop will be donating to the Salvation Army 10% of our sale on Saturday Nov. 30th, 2013, which is Small Business Saturday (this does not include any quilts picked up that day that I have quilted nor any quilts that I write up that day to be quilted). I will state my personal reasons for choosing the Salvation Army below: I have had personal experience as to what it is like to lose your home. In 1994 we lost our home along with 21 of our neighbors in Scarbrough Est. in Havana, IL. The true nature of our disaster started the year before, do to heavy rains. The natural Aquifer that Mason County is built upon, started to raise in 1993 and continued seeking ground level in 1994. We lived almost 2 miles from the river, so you see most folks didnt realize our plight for well over a year. Some other well know agencies made their way to our neighborhood, but to my personal knowledge none of my neighbors nor my family received their aid. We felt as if their visit to our neighborhood was a show staged for the eyes of the media. The Salvation Army did come to our aid with some quick dollars to help cover extra expenses incurred by not being able to drink the water, use the septic tank, needing to take meals else where and the list goes on no matter what the natural disaster may be. With that being said.... I am in no way frowning upon the other agencies, I am just stating my neighbors and my observations at the time. I have been a faithful donator to the Salvation Army ever since. I will turn my receipts over to my CPA, letting him hold me accountable, for the donation for that day. I will appreciate any support you can lend in this effort. With that being said, I so wish all of the victims a speedy recovery of their homes and possessions, I know the road they have to travel will be fraught with anguish, stress and lots of worries, but I know that the Salvation Army will contact those victims in need and try to help with monetary aid to full fill needs that are not noticed by other agencies. I know that insurance companies are sometimes slow to meet everyday needs and maybe these dollars raised can in some small way aid those in need with the holidays fast approaching for families, especially those with children. Now on to other news....... The holidays are almost here and I want to make you aware of what days we will be close during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will be closed the following days so the staff and I may enjoy our families and friends: THANKSGIVING CLOSING Wed. Nov. 27th Thur. Nov. 28th Fri. Nov. 29th We will re-open on Sat.
