This is my sister, a year younger than I am. With her is my youngest sister. Family and friends had gathered in Cancun for my nephews wedding, which was to have been yesterday. My sister, Theresa Pike, of Powell WY fell at the resort and hit her head hard on concrete stairs. She has undergone emergency brain surgery. She made it through the surgery, and is now in ICU in a medically-induced coma. A tube is draining blood off her brain to relieve the pressure. The other young lady in the photo is my youngest sister, Susan Burrow, from Sedalia TX, who was with Theresa when she fell. Theresa (BZ we call her) suffered a massive stroke years ago when her youngest daughter Erin was barely 6 weeks old. BZ wasnt expected to pull through that stroke, but shes one hell of a fighter. It took many years but she recovered much of her independence. She still has some paralysis on her right side and has aphasia (a speech defect). We dont know how she will come through with this injury. She is hospitalized in ICU in a hospital in Cancun. My understanding is that her Medicare will not cover her expenses. This family would never ask for anything. These are the people who give and give. My brother-in-law spends his winters (when he doesnt run a small landscaping business) teaching people with disabilities how to ski. It is a program called Eagle Mount out of Red Lodge MT. I did not know this was going to be on Facebook. I dont know if my family in Cancun knows this is on Facebook. Our hope is that BZs condition will stabilize and that the bleeding in her brain will stop so that she can be life-flighted back to the states for further medical care. Please keep Theresa Pike and her family in your thoughts. I will know more as the hours pass. I just learned this this evening when my sister Susan called me. I will try to answer any questions, so you can message me if you want. Thank you, all.
