This is not a rant, but fresh off of a traditional Maine Moose - TopicsExpress

This is not a rant, but fresh off of a traditional Maine Moose hunt, Ive just got to get this out. Im disgusted with with the sloppiness of moose hunters and people need to clean it up! It takes years to get drawn, and it truly is a hunt of a lifetime! Nowhere else in the lower 48 can you have this experience, to hunt moose in some amazing wilderness, and have this opportunity. Yet some, or I should say most, decide that road hunting, ie driving all day looking for moose crossing the road, getting out, and shooting, and then saying What a great hunt! disturbs me! We offer the real deal, a true hunt, and we scout, find where the bulls are, and we stalk, call, and use scent and rattling tactics, and other techniques to fool our quarry. The use of electronic calls is insane! They are annoying the moose, and the guys that work hard to provide a true hunt. If you cant learn how to call, then dont call. To be a hunter is to be a predator. Predators dont mount lawn chairs to roof racks and drive roads, press a button and let an imitation electronic call disrupt the forest, smoke butts while your client chokes as they look out the window with anticipation. Im disgusted with the fact that its OK because its hard to move a big animal. Plan on it, and figure it out. If youre a mile from the road, great job, now the work begins, but youll be proud of yourself. Most of this activity takes place on managed logging roads and paper company lands. Do them a favor: show respect, and if you need to take a crap, go in the woods, not on the side of the roadway. Smoke? Dont fling your butts out the window. Trash? Pick it up. If you pull into a spot that someone is hunting, or stalking, find another spot for a while. Wake up guys!!! Its really simple-Plan ahead, cover some ground, and learn how to call properly. Get some mud on your boots, and sweat a little. Then, when you get some blood on your hands, youll feel connected to why we hunt.
