This is not just the trend of the moment. This is not something we can talk about today and forget about tomorrow. What happened in Ferguson is a disgrace and a tragendy. It is the loss of an innocent life at the hands of an institution that was never built to fight and defend all people. This movement is not about the loss of one life but is about the lives of black people that are lost every day at the hands of discrimination and an unjust system. This is about the injustice that black Americans face every single day that is embedded in to every fiber of American life. Anyone who does not live their life in a black body has no authority nor an ounce of understanding of what its like to live the life of a black American or can ever begin to know what its like to be treated and looked at differently every day, to have false assumptions made about you because of the color of your skin, and to live and fight in a world that was built to suppress and enslave you. I can not fathom the pain one faces to be told and treated your entire life that you are lesser then because of something that should be as simple and beautiful as the difference in the color of ones skin. I can not begin to understand how it feels to live in fear and to constantly look over your shoulder, knowing that one day someone may not only spew hatred but also inflict violence upon you for having black skin. I would never pretend like I can understand how any of this feels and because I was born in a white body I will never know. However I know that change is happening, has been happening and will continue to happen in order to strive toward a country where all people are truly treated as equals. I stand in solidarity with all black Americans in whatever measures must be taken to free themselves of the injustices that they have always faced in this country. The world never opens their eyes until the oppressed masses fight back and until the injustices can no longer be ignored and forgotten.
