This is one of the most idiotic and manipulative attempts at justifying GMOs Ive ever heard. All he is saying is hey everything is GMO, weve been doing it for as long as agriculture has existed, so chill out. Wow what an unbelievably unscientific explanation. So by his logic, anything that everyone does and has been doing forever should continue to be done without questioning the deeper implications of it. That is the type of group-think and conformity that is the exact opposite of what science is about. He makes no mention of the potential long-term health risks of food modified in a lab, which, mind you, is much different than humans AND nature modifying it by selection over thousands of years. The natural selection he compares GMOs to has nothing to do with splicing genes from two entirely different species and cloning them. Only a completely ignorant person would believe that those two types of modifications are even remotely similar. He doesnt go into the real issues surrounding GMOs because there has not been enough time to properly test the long term implications of GMOs and THAT is the issue, and THAT is why GMOs should simply be labeled, not banned, in my opinion. But they havent had the time to be properly tested, and arent labeled, because Monsanto owns the FDA and the US government and pushed to have their GMO products made the norm without any true scientific proof that they are safe or unsafe. I dont care how renowned Neil is as a scientist, this was one of the worst, most shallow, meaningless and stupidest attempts at justifying GMOs ever. I dont think hes that dumb though, so he probably has some type of interest in the GMO industry.
