This is one of the most surreal things Ive ever watched in my life, and not merely because of the suicide at the end. A persons life is being thrown away for crime where no person was physically harmed, in typical American fashion, and people are just sitting there talking about bureaucracy for 8 minutes. Its strange that this what our justice system is like. So alienating. Everything comes down to a philosophical system that was argued by lawyers to judges who then made their decisions based on their interpretations of other laws. Theres no democracy in any of this, except for the daily vote, by means of our quiet compliance, to let it stay the way it is. All of this strikes me as most interesting, and it is uninteresting that the man kills himself by swallowing cyanide. After all, one knows that even if the man had not killed himself he would have wished for death. Who wouldnt? What person does not wish for death when they have crossed the American empire? And what person does not, in the end, receive death when they have? Or something worse, like solitary confinement for years on end, something which the rest of the western world has condemned as cruel and unusual. Death, in America, is getting off easy. Michael Marin shows us as much. Justice is indifference mixed with mass incarceration. America shows us as much.
