This is post from Hawaii News Now. It consolidates info from Civil Defense and USGS. BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Officials say the Puna lava flow has not advanced in the last 24 hours, after slowing considerably over the weekend when the flow front front expanded from 50 yards to 150 yards at its widest. Hawaii County Civil Defense officials say the front edge of the lava flow is now 100 yards and Monday mornings overflight assessment indicated very little activity. According to Hawaii County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira, no structures or properties are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered. Oliveira says residents will be given adequate notice to leave should that be necessary. Officials say the brush fire that had been started by the lava flow on Saturday has been contained and there was no active burning Monday morning. Smoke conditions were moderate in the Kaohe Homesteads subdivision area with light winds blowing from the northeast. Officials did observe a small breakout upslope from the leading edge of the June 27 Puu Oo crater flow, which they say is moving in a northeast direction into forest. USGS geologists with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say other small breakouts also remain active closer to Puu Oo — roughly midway along the length of the June 27th flow. They say none of those breakouts are very vigorous, but together they compose a significant portion of the total flow volume and some are producing smoke plumes as they move through the forest. Officials want to remind the public that the flow cannot be accessed from any public areas. Access to the Kaohe Homesteads subdivision remains restricted to residents and property owners only.
