This is put beautifully. Had to share. Imagine my surprise when my son Kaelten Mildenstein woke me up at midnight (40 min ago) and said mom I need to respond to something Auntie Ray put on her timeline about women and the priesthood. I tried to sleep through the spirits promptings but I just need to make it right. At first I thought there was a fire or something but then as I realized what he said I unlocked the computer and then was told to leave to the back of the room while he typed. With all my new moments in the adventures of teen delirium (as I believe it is a 6 year disease that sets in deeply at age 15) did I ever expect to read what you will read next. It brought tears to my eyes, a renewed hope in our path here at my home and helped me understand even more why Heavenly Father gave men the priesthood. My testimony of the church, Christ, Joseph Smiths first vision, women not needing the priesthood and so on is deeper then it could ever be tonight. I am so thankful for the kids he has given me and the constant strength they give me. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ Amen. Kaelten wrote this… Holding the Aaronic priesthood myself and being the quorum president of the teachers of my church, I can say that women have an extremely important role in the priesthood. Women magnify the power of the priesthood and help uphold it. The priesthood is like a board If you hammer a nail into that board it can move in every direction around that nail, but if you hammer a second nail into this board you make that board steadfast and firm. The women of the church are that second nail helping hold the priesthood in place, and balance it with their husbands together as a team. One of our beloved 12 apostles D. Todd Christofferson once said during a general conference: “From age immemorial, societies have relied on the moral force of women. While certainly not the only positive influence at work in society, the moral foundation provided by women has proved uniquely beneficial to the common good. Perhaps, because it is pervasive, this contribution of women is often under-appreciated. I wish to express gratitude for the influence of good women, identify some of the philosophies and trends that threaten women’s strength and standing, and voice a plea to women to cultivate the innate moral power within them. Women bring with them into the world a certain virtue, a divine gift that makes them adept at instilling such qualities as faith, courage, empathy, and refinement in relationships and in cultures. When praising the “unfeigned faith” he found in Timothy, Paul noted that this faith “dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice.” Our late beloved prophet Gordon B. Hinckley also once said: “Women do not hold the priesthood because the Lord has put it that way. It is part of His program. Women have a very prominent place in this Church. Men hold the priesthood offices of the Church. But women have a tremendous place in this Church. They have their own organization. It was started in 1842 by the Prophet Joseph Smith, called the Relief Society, because its initial purpose was to administer help to those in need. It has grown to be, I think, the largest women’s organization in the world... They have their own offices, their own presidency, their own board. That reaches down to the smallest unit of the Church everywhere in the world... The men hold the priesthood, yes. But my wife is my companion. In this Church the man neither walks ahead of his wife nor behind his wife but at her side. They are co-equals in this life in a great enterprise.” Men are given the priesthood to help guide them individually, and it is there to benefit both man and women. The only way to reach the celestial kingdom of heaven to be with our heavenly father is through the marriage and sealing of a man and women. This Protest is not a protest of womens rights but a protest of Gods laws. Excommunication is a way God shows his love erasing your covenants you made with him so you will not be condemned by them in the end. It allows you to start over. My heart also goes out to Kate and her family also that they can safely find their way back.
