This is really interesting and its actually something I do on occasion. Perhaps I should do it more frequently. Traffic jams on the crowded freeways happen because people are in a hurry and dont leave a big enough space in between cars so other people can merge in. If we all leave a big enough gap, we can all travel at a higher average speed and minimize or eliminate the stop and go traffic which is so frustrating. Living here in the bay area, we all experience major traffic. If just a few of us do something like this, we can help move traffic along for everyone. Lets stop competing on the roadways to gain 10 or 20 seconds. Lets just give room for everyone to get to where they are going and we will all get to where we are going faster.
