This is really interesting to read especially considering my current place in South Africa and all of the different things I have been learning about white exceptionalism and neoimperialism throughout classes and everyday here. Rwanda is in a completely different situation, South Africa is one of the most developed countries in Africa, yet American students who study here are still surprised when they go to township schools and the children are able to speak English; their surprise is immediately followed by a Facebook-worthy picture that will remain on their newsfeed for months to prove they helped Africa. Sickening.
