This is scary as hell, especially if you are a parent. About ten years ago, a young boy disappeared at a state campground in Southern California. There was a massive manhunt, with fears he had been kidnapped by a pedophile. His remains were found in a mountain lion den last year. We constantly forget were are as much on the circle of life-protein buffet as the next mammal. Protected symbol or not, I doubt there is a single, sane person who would have hestitated to fill that damned bird with O-O-O buckshot.
