A 14-YEAR-OLD ice user who stole a car while on probation is “dicing with the devil”, his lawyer has said. A Victorian Children’s Court heard the teenager and 11 others went to Torquay on May 24 and stole from about 30 unlocked cars. The police prosecutor said the group netted more than $3700 worth of goods before stealing a car and driving it to an APCO service station where they drove off without paying for $62 worth of petrol. The car was recovered in Torquay. The prosecutor said the youth was also found carrying a Swiss Army knife, which he told police he needed because “it’s Norlane”. The teen’s lawyer told the court he was “dicing with the devil” by using ice but had started to turn his life around. He said he had stopped hanging around with the other teens and was engaging in education. “He’s worried he’s going to get locked up,” the lawyer said. “I’d be asking for him to be given another chance.” The magistrate said, given the teenager had been sentenced in June for driving in a manner dangerous and unlicensed driving, she had to consider the need to protect the community. “This is a 14-year-old on ice who’s carrying a knife for protection,” she said. “He’s already had two lots of probation.” The teenager pleaded guilty and was placed on a 12-month Youth Supervision Order and warned his was “climbing the ladder” in the justice system. geelongadvertiser.au/news/crime-court/teenage-ice-user-given-third-chance-to-clean-up-act-after-stealing-car-on-probation/story-fnjuhoxe-1226985338087
