This is text of English Speech that I wrote and my Student Wajid Khan of class 7 boys stood second in District Bannu. Respected President, Teachers and Students Asalamo Alikum Sir before starting expressing my views I would like to narrate few lines from an Urdu poem. Respected Sir the word change refers to reforms in a society. There are many people involved in bringing a social change but a teacher is a man who can bring change at a very grass root level because he is in a direct contact with the young minds. His job cannot remain confined to delivering a set of lectures or mere coverage of syllabus. His role does not stop in the classroom but he promotes social change in schools and in communities. Respected President there are two categories of change, quantitative and qualitative change. Quantitative change is a change that is measurable, such as a person’s age, sizes and marks in examinations, whereas qualitative change involves quality, such as a personal role in a civilized society. In order to bring about change, there are to be the thought leaders, who define and redefine, elaborate meanings and necessity of the desired changes. Schooling is the best vehicle to change the minds and the teacher is the driver of this vehicle. But respected sir sorry to say teachers are no more the agents of change in our Pakistani society. They are the agents of statuesque. In the past, social changes were brought about by fabricating ideologies but in the modern world cause of social change is science. Science is bringing changes in behaviors, attitudes and social norms. If you don’t believe look at the mobile phones in your hands. Of course technology bring some negative changes in a society but a nation who is well prepared for these negative changes can easily neutralize the negative impacts. Are our teachers ready for the changes brought about by science all over the world? Of course they are not. Respected Sir the teacher who is teaching science, it is his responsibility to make the minds of his students logical, investigative and exploratory. But sorry to say our science teachers even don’t know the basis of scientific study and procedures. They can only define scientific procedure but can’t implement it on everyday life. Respected President our science teachers are pushing this ball in the court of social studies teachers. That it is their duty to explain the science and its advantages in the society. But our social studies teachers are busy in explaining that why a Muslim can’t live with non-Muslims. They are driving the students to the comparative study of religions. They are ignoring the fact that today Muslims are living with non-Muslims in Arab countries, Malaysia, China, India, USA and UK. And they are living very peacefully. Respected Sir our religion teachers’ duty is to explain it to the students that Gods religion inevitably results in philanthropy and human rights. But unfortunately he is busy in pushing the students towards monasticism, renouncing the worldly pursuits and leaving the world at the mercy of imperialist powers. خود بدلتے نہیں، قرآں کو بدل دیتے ہیں ہوئے کس درجہ فقیہان حرم بے توفیق! Respected Sir, Teacher is just like a polar star that is not the destination but it shows the destination. Our Holy prophet Hazrat Muhammad said “ ”. Now we must look at the role of our prophet as a teacher. Our prophet brought out the nation from ignorance. He did not compel his companions to start worshiping at once but rather first of all he made them civilized human beings who protected the rights of the weak and oppressed irrespective of their religion. That was a social change in the Arab world. Respected Sir today how many students want to become teachers. May be only few. School Building, books everything is important but if no one is eager to become teacher then we must understand that today teacher is not the agent of change. If society is heading towards a decline then a teacher can become a speed breaker. If a teacher is not able to bring a positive change in the minds of his students then he is not a teacher, he is a businessman. Once the renowned scholar Ishfaq Ahmad was fined by the traffic police in Rome. When he was produced in the court then the judge stood for him for a while because he was a teacher and in the Western world teacher is the agent of change. Respected Sir our prophet was a teacher and he changed the social fabric of Arabia by redefining the social relationship between humans. He presented very scientific approaches in such a social way that the ignorant Arabs had to believe in it. Today the teachers will have to come forward to change the society through education especially science education because today science is the source of change in society. Otherwise teacher will not be able to gain the respect from the society. Respected Sir though my words may seem harsh however I would like to say that it is very easy to clean the dirt but once the dirt take the shape of heap then it is very difficult to clean the heap of dirt. I would like to end the speech with the following lines…
