This is the Ambrose Lightship, a historic ship belonging to the South Street Seaport Museum, and named for John Wolfe Ambrose, born in Ireland in 1838. Wolfe emigrated to New York City at the age of 14 and became an engineer and developer. His vision led to the deepening of New York harbor, making it suitable for the largest ships of the time to enter. In honor of St. Patricks Day, we tell his story in todays issue of Downtown Post NYC. Not yet a subscriber? Go to DowntownPostNYC and sign up. (Photo: © Terese Loeb Kreuzer 2012)
