This is the Deputy who shot the dog in the Post Below, He has been Fired! According to Thursdays KLTV News, the Rains County Sheriffs deputy who shot a Texas dairy farmers cattle dog, has been fired. According to Sheriff David Traylor, Deputy Jerrod Dooley was fired on Thursday because of threats. Deputy Dooley shot Cole Middletons two-year-old dog, Candy, when he responded to a call about a burglary at Middletons home. Dooley claimed that Candy had charged him, but a necropsy on the dogs body revealed that the gunshot wound entered at the back of her skull, and exited out her face - suggesting that she was running away from the deputy at the time that she was mortally wounded. The gunshot was not immediately fatal and though Middleton pleaded for the deputy to finish what he had started, the deputy refused. Candys guardian was forced to end his dogs life because she was in horrific pain - he told KLTV: And then I had to do the unthinkable, the otherwise unthinkable. I had to kill my dog with my bare hands and put her out of her suffering, praying for this to be over with,” Support for Candy and her devastated guardian continues to grow on the Justice for Candy Middleton Facebook page which has nearly 20,000 followers. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing - Dooley will not be returning to the Rains County Sheriffs Office, regardless of the investigations outcome.
