This is the email I sent to the board. Stay strong, GEA. Dear Board Members, In the interest of full disclosure, I want you to know that I am a teacher, albeit not with District 205. I am not a parent, but I am a District 205 alumna, voter, and taxpayer. I am frustrated and concerned with the direction the contract negotiations have taken. It seems as if heels are being dug in, mud is being flung, and a fair and equitable compromise is becoming a fleeting hope. I know you are all reasonable people who care about this community and the education of our children, and I am appealing to you to focus on that and help bring an end to this standoff. With each passing day, kids are losing -- losing classroom contact time, extracurricular opportunities, and the special education students of Knox AND Warren counties are being denied the teachers they know and trust. Please dont delay negotiations for five more days. Please find a way to help this crisis draw to a close so that our schools and community can heal and go back to doing what Galesburg schools did for me and my classmates (including some of you) -- preparing students to lead and succeed. Sincerely, Melissa Agar
