This is the first time I have been coherent enough to sit down and type this out. This actually happened to me on Saturday evening, in rural Oklahoma somewhere near Collinsville. A funny thing happened on the way to the Wedding. Some friends of ours got married this past Saturday. It was a beautiful medieval/Tudor ceremony, at a gorgeous secluded campsite. My GPS had never heard of it, nor the street address, and I got thoroughly lost. I was frustrated because all 4 of us were planning to be there around noon for the days festivities, and it was now 4:45 and just me. Nothing had gone right that day. It would have been a comedy of errors but it simply wasnt funny. The ceremony was to start at 5, and I knew I was going to miss it. Trying my best to keep my bearings and not scream in rage and frustration, I found myself behind and older model town car that was driving 30 mph below the speed limit. The car ambled along for about a mile, and then calmly crossed the center line, dove off the embankment, and plowed into a tree. Naturally, it kinda freaked me out. There wasnt anyone else around, so I stopped, grabbed my phone, dialed 911, and went running down to the car. My GPS had just shown me an intersection, so I knew sort of where we were. I told the dispatcher to look for my car (Since you couldnt see the other one from the road), and that I was dressed funny because I was going to a historical wedding. (I was wearing the ivory and gold Byzantine dress that is in the photos section, and the fancy hairpiece that goes with it.) She said there was an officer just a quarter of a mile away and he would be there soon. I lost phone signal as I got to the car. The driver was alone, and unconscious, slumped over his steering wheel, but didnt appear to be hurt otherwise. He was probably in his 50s-60s, and his work uniform said William on the name tag. I smelled gasoline, and Ive seen enough movies to worry that it could potentially catch fire. I shook him a little and he looked up at me. I called him by name and told him he had to get out of the car. He said, Are you here to take me home? I said, No, William, Im here to get you out of the car and make sure youre okay. He said, No, Im ready to go. Ive got nothing else to live for. Just let me go. I told him I wasnt going to do that. He looked back up at me and asked, Are you an angel? It was then that I remembered what I was wearing, and that it indeed might look a bit celestial to someone in his condition, so I used it to my advantage. Yes, I said in a more commanding voice, and I need you to get out of the car right now. He said, Did God send you to stop me from doing something stupid? and I said Yes he did. Its not your time. Youve still got work to do. Now stand up and come with me. He reached out, and took hold of my shoulders. I helped him walk about 50 feet away from the car where he sat down on a stump. I saw the police officer heading down the embankment towards us. William was just staring at me wide eyed. The officer asked him if he was okay, and he replied, I was ready to end it, and God sent this angel to save me, and tell me my life still has purpose! Its like the Road to Damascus for me! I still have work to do. Angels are real! See? and he gestured towards me. The officer, God bless him, looked around, and said, Im sorry, sir. I dont see her. Then he glanced at me knowingly, nodded, and I stepped away. On my way back to my car, I heard William shout Thank you God! I sat back down in my car and tried with all my might not to cry. Everything that had conspired to make me so late, so very lost on that particular rural road, and leave me no available dress to wear but this one... It seems it was all for a useful purpose after all. I dont know Williams last name, and he never knew I was real, but thats okay. Thats not what mattered. I will never forget that experience, and Im pretty sure he wont either. You never know when Life/Fate/God will put you in the position to change someones life just by doing something so small as stopping to help or doing the right thing. It really blows your mind. God sent that particular police officer too, who saw and understood Williams struggle, and told him exactly what he needed to hear. Its amazing how tiny little things like that can have a huge effect on someone elses life and outlook. I did make it to the wedding. As fate would have it, they were running a tad behind too, and I made it there just in time.
