This is the list from my Pay It Forward page that I have complied with help from my members. Many helpful tips on here, there is no such thing as too much preparation. Please feel free to share this information, in fact I highly encourage it- especially with people you know that are new to island and may not know what to do during a typhoon to prep. *UPDATED INFORMATION* long list but many helpful tips! thank you everyone who contributed and stay safe! Some top points Ive seen posted for typhoon prep-members please add what I havent mentioned I will edit and add it to this post. If anyone needs help with prep or info please dont hesitate to reach out or ask. -Eagle Hardware on kadena has sand bags so does Makeman. **update: eagle hardware just got new shipment so head over there now! Limit is 10 bags per household) thanks Whitney for info! ** - be sure to bring in important paperwork (registration, title) from cars also car seats. If your car gets damaged youll want these things safe. - consider moving trash cans/ recycling in storage unit once storm hits or bungee it down. Also (SO important) make sure all outside items are tied down/ secured. You dont want to wake up Wednesday morning to see a beer bottle or fire poker in your windshield. - fill up an empty containers with water and freeze it or grab some extra ice in case power goes out it will keep perishable items longer - water water water you can never have enough. Fill up your bath tub when storm hits you have extra water and can use it to flush. - have flashlights, candles, board games, cards ready in case power goes out. -have some puppy pads handy if you have pets -put old towels in windows just in case water starts to come in -have movies handy and snacks. Being stuck inside kids might get antsy. Make a fort in your living room or make an in home theatre -make sure phones and tablets are charged or constantly on charger during storm in case power goes out - charge up kiddos handheld games -dont go outside just because it looks like the storm is over! The back side of the storm will arrive quick and heavy! Listen to official channels for the okay to go outside. - - shut blinds and set fridge to coolest setting. Want to keep everything as cool as you can in case power goes out -have orders, passports, birth certificates together...any important legal documents just in case -fill up your gas tank. makes your car heavier -Ice, in case your freezer goes out. (for your meats/milk) Right when things get bad, I fill the tubs and sinks with water. (To flush the toilet with in case something goes wrong with the pluming) Picked up some paper plates, bowls, and plastic ware in case the dish washer goes out and again, problems with the water. We picked up a fan that it battery operated as well. Put some towels in the window panes and sliding glass doors if you have them to prevent water from coming in. Not from flooding but from the rain as it is being pushed by the wind. -Put your e-brakes on and if you have the rain shields on your car windows tape them down bc they will get ripped off the cars like nothing! Also try and park your cars as close together with neighbors cars. It helps to keep the wind from rocking them and shifting too bad -have cash and yen on hand in case power goes out and you need money -battery operated fans available at Naval Kadena.
