This is the message I just sent to our Senators: Heinrich and Udall. Hemp should be removed from the controlled substances list on grounds that it is not a drug or drug derivative. It is an incredibly diverse, delicious, durable, and dynamic weed that can grow almost anywhere with low maintenance and in varying climates. Hemp is a sustainable and abundant crop that provides three supreme raw materials: protein oil, hemp nut (all your omegas), and fiber. New Mexico is in a very precarious social/economic predicament with the current economic depression. Hemp farming and processing in our home state is our right. We spend *450 Million in hemp imports every year, nationally. What if we were actually exporting raw materials and products right here?! People deserve the right to propagate and use, grow, sell and share this incredible, edible plant.
