This is the moral question of our age: Can we reclaim a democracy? Right now we have a democracy responsive to the funders only, a tiny fraction of the populace who have enough money to get candidates campaigns off the ground (T.V., newspaper and magazine ads cost a fortune, as do extensive mailings). Our democracy has failed on our watch, which means we have failed our children. From Lawrence Lessig. Worth a listen. The fact is that weve never had a real democracy in our country. The Constitution was written in such a way that it encouraged the wealthy landed class ability to maintain their position (the founding fathers tacked on the Bill of Rights to assuage the fears of the non-landed people) and the Courts have made decisions over the past two centuries that have further embedded that ability. But theres no reason we shouldnt work to create a true democracy. Its up to us. We have to come together to make it happen. Slavery was abolished. Women got the vote. Workers got the 8-hour day (being eroded now). Lets get busy folks!!! https://facebook/video.php?v=1093784147317704
