This is the most memorable scene from Schindlers list, - TopicsExpress

This is the most memorable scene from Schindlers list, representing SS Haupsturmfuhrer Amon Goeth arbitrarily shooting jews from his balcony at 22 Jerozolimska Street adjacent to the Plaszow concentration camp. Also this scene is the furthest from the truth. It was taken from the account of his maid, Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, and was never substantiated by anyone else, even though there are thousands of survivors of this labor camp. The actual villa still stands today, as does the mock up house used in Schindlers List on the same street but built on the set to actually be part of the movie camp itself. This is just fiction as the actual house was purposely built behind a huge hill to shield the view of the camp from the balcony, and there was no view of the real camp as it was in 1943 from the balcony. Goeth couldnt even see into the camp from his villa, much less take target practice on Jews from the balcony. Also I would like to note if you go there today Spielberg has left a lot of the 1993 movie set behind including a road depicted as being made of face up Jewish headstones, which also is untrue, but displayed sadistically in the movie as if to imply the Germans intended to drive and trample on the dead souls of Jews. Not true. The camp was built on a small Jewish cemetery, and the 20 or so stones there were mixed in as gravel for roads rather than just destroyed and the actual road to the camp no longer exists. Spielberg uses creative license a lot in Schindlers List and the accompanying films and interviews of his Shoah foundation, which seems to be a huge mash up of filling in of contradicting memories and a distortion of reality that they pass off as truth. A tourist visiting the site at Plaszow, and doing no research would not realize that the fences, posts, some structures including something that resembles a run down crematorium with Polish graffiti all over it, and the fake road are all part of the movie set shot in the adjacent quarry in 1993 and not left by the Nazis in 1945. Everything that was there was buried and is now made into a wildlife refuge, only Goeths villa remains of what was there in 1943.This is confusing to the tourists that visit the site, because it all looks like its the same place and further distorts the truth, which seems to almost be intended as nobody has done anything about it. I have no idea why the site clearly marked now as a wildlife refuge would leave these props behind and basically allow tourists to view and photograph them as if they are historically accurate. There is so much to be said about the holocaust, and its really a shame that most of it is not true or embellished by movies and even by survivors who know the difference.
