This is the percentage of people involved in the labor of the US, or all those who are of age and able bodied to work in the US. In other words, if it is 50% then 50% are involved in some way in the labor market and 50% are not involved in it. if you take this number and subtract it from 100/ie 100% you get the percent of unemployed out there or those who are not involved in the labor market officially. it is a better number than the unemployment rate they put out there, which no one actually knows the way they arrive at it specifically. They do not tell anyone.
