This is the problem with the contemporary internet, but also with the contemporary filmmaker. Do Star Wars fans want Abrams to be musing and teasing easter eggs or do they want a good solid script and feature film. The answer to that is not so simple, but here it is: Decades ago, fans wanted a good sci-fi experience in a darkened theater. Todays fans want teasers and spoilers. Set pics and leaks. Thats the experience now. I dont know if this film will be good or not, but I do know this; what made Star Wars exceptional sci-fi was that it was birthed from hardship and compromise. The script was great up until the real world made itself known in the form of a dozen different calamities. Facing and overcoming those challenges is what made Star Wars great. Mostly because those hardships forced the makers to make sure that the vision of the script wasnt derailed. Episode VII will undoubtedly have amazing special effects and unprecedented marketing. It will have buzz and blurry leaked photos. It will have instagrams and vines. Thats what people demand. And that makes me sad.
