This is the story of two friends X and Y...both secured 90+% in their 10th standard board exams in 2004. Both joined the same coaching institute and college and prepared earnestly for their 12th standard board exams and CET exams in 2006. Both passed out with flying colors.... X joined IIT Mumbai....Y joined Seth G.S Medical college Mumbai....one of the top ten medical colleges in India....Fast forward to Dec 2010..X passes his BTech exams and is offered a package of 1.5 crores per annum by a Silicon valley startup....Where is Y...Y recovered from dengue which he contracted from KEM hospital hostel and prepared for his Final MBBS exams. He next serves one year of internship and received a stipend of 3000 rupees during the period....he also prepared for his post graduate CET...being an open merit candidate he will be competing with 8000 fellow graduates for about 400 seats. Before joining his postgraduate course he had to work in a rural peripheral health center for a year or needed to shell out 50 lakh rupees as a penalty for violating a bond . During his PG course he stayed in hostels which were worse than pig stys and received a stipend of 30000 rupees per month during this period. In 2014 when he passes his MD exams and starts practice he has to compete with Ayush and quacks and he will be expected to work for peanuts all because he chose a noble profession!!!?. In the meanwhile X is in line for the CEO job in a California company and be the toast of a nation proud of its son!!!...We need to introspect on the future of healthcare in our country.
