This is the tenth post on “What is misery? How mystical insight helps to alleviate misery?” Mystical insight is free from the shortcomings which we find clinging to intellectual knowledge. Mystic knowledge always remains same for all irrespective of time and place. It is in real sense the true knowledge as it is sure and certain. There is no chance of apprehension, confusion or doubt. Further, it is not passive like the intellectual knowledge but it is effective in action as it guides a seeker and controls his life through a proper direction; it becomes an inherent part of our personality and life. That sound current and effulgent divine light which guides us through our spiritual journey also indices us to abide by it. That Holy Spirit has the power to enchant us to do according to its dictates. Spiritual insight cures us of all passions of mind and all spiritual ailments and liberates us from anxiety, worry, misery, fear and all subtle evils. As divine light comes, darkness of ignorance disappears; when eternal bliss comes, pain fades away. Spiritual transcendence removes all our weaknesses and makes us spiritually robust. The effulgence of spiritual love washes away all our filth and dirt; the storm of mystic bliss drives away all our doubt and suspicion; the sun of mystic knowledge disappears all our delusions and darkness; nothing is left except the naked truth beaming in its own radiance, the absolute reality glowing in its own refulgence. Rumi says: As he holdeth the light of Truth, Therefore hath he peace And deliverance from the pangs of doubt. (Jaise banda hota hai rubaroo, Haqeeqat ke aftab se, Sukoon se paa jaataa hai nizaat, Wo shak kee cubhan se. Mysticism does not dictate you like philosophy or religion but it asks to experiment and see the truth by ourselves. It only opens our inner eyes so that we may see for ourselves; it only gives us light and sound so that we may perceive reality in its true colour; it only awakens our latent transcendent power of perceiving the deep reality of things, and then leaves us to form our own jugdement by a firsthand experience. Mysticism believes in practical and not in mere theoretical understanding. An intellectual understanding of mystical concepts may help us in doing the mystic practice properly, but the real object of all mystic experimentation is to have firsthand realization of transcendent truths and experience of subtle realms and entities. Mysticism teaches us how to cross the gate of death even during our lifetime and see for ourselves all that is hidden beyond this physical realm. It is quite true that no ordinary person can come back after death but mystics cross the valley of death and come back during meditation. As liberated soul, they freely roam about in all the subtle planes. Thus they can tell us about the subtle planes and help us to cross the valley of death and traverse those regions. If we are able to go, as soul, into the subtle planes during our lifetime, we can also see the other world before our death. This is what mysticism does for us; it teaches us how to die and go into the other world before our final death, see the reality of subtler planes, unveil hidden mysteries, and then come back into this physical body. Rumi says: Death’s agony didst thou suffer (in meditation); But still art thou behind the veil, for true death (Which consisteth in dying while living) Thou didst not experience. Maut ke manzar se tumhaaree puraanee dostee hai, Chhip ke baithe ho zismaanee burke mein, Kyaa gam rahegaa tumhein is zahaan se jaane kaa. We cannot worship God in true sense until by crossing the threshold of death within lifetime and visit His eternal abode and see Him face to face. (SGGS 21) To reach your True Home after you die, you must conquer death while you are still alive. Kabit Sahib says: If die we must, then let us die And be rid of this world; But such a death a very few die Hundreds of times in a day. Mariye to mari jaaiye, chhuti parai zanzaar. What he is saying that mystics can go into the subtle worlds hundreds of times during the day. In next post we will compare mysticism with religion. Mystic insight is (To be continued)
