This is the throwback Thursday report from Mayberry by the sea.......these photos were just taken but it seems like a lifetime ago...............I like to watch the Andy Griffith Show every day around 11:30 am.....today is one of my favorite episodes when Mayberry has to hold 2 hardened criminals in their jail...a jail cell with a nice lamp with frills...a side table with a lace doily...pictures on the wall...a rug and a bed that anyone would kill to sleep in......Barney Fife puffs his chest up and struts like a rooster and lectures these hardened criminals on the rules.....and how things are going to be at THE ROCK!!!!.......hahahaha...I am laughing my ass off.......so funny...these criminals escape three times under the watch of Barney Fife and the new deputy that they deputized for the event...... Gomer Pile.....but Andy Griffith is calm and deals with the situation in an intelligent way ...with grace and humility when dealing with the incompetence by these two men.....and I made an analogy of how our President Barrack Obama deals with the ignorant incompetence of the dumb white men in congress he has to deal with every day....The Tea Party shitforbrains trying to break our government......and.....I know it takes alot of patience and my hat is off to him...I love it when these people go apeshit over the most minor things he does and FREAK OUT.........things spoon fed to them by FOX news.....the poster child of Yellow journalism......Obama is the new Andy Griffith..........but I digress......yesterday the episode was about Barney buying a car from a little old woman who is actually a con artist who takes him for $300 and sells him a lemon......I love how in this show they dress up for every occasion....a bus trip has them dressing in a suit......a date in Mount Pilot at the diner has them in a suit and hat.....and a ride in Barneys new car has the entire family dressed in their finest threads...a suit and a hat....bow ties ..shiny black shoes...the works!...........I remember once when my Uncle Russ took us all out for a drive in his new Lincoln Continental...we got spruced up too but no suits.....he took us waaaaayyyyyyyy out into the country.......down Rifle Range road.,,and then to Mathis Ferry road...where my house is now.....this is now the center of town but back then in 1971 it was like driving to Egypt and back.....I remember the way the blinker sounded when ever he turned.......and the way the car smelled.......Uncle Russ was my favorite uncle...he was a naval Capt. during World War II and would tell me about the Japanese Kamikaze pilots that flew close enough to him where her could see their faces as they narrowly missed the ship he was on.......he was a brilliant man and wrote books on navigation......and is responsible for bringing the Williams Clan to The Isle Of Palms......he married my aunt Marcie who I thought was beautiful and they bought a house on Cameron Blvd which was the edge of the wilderness back in the 50s..........Marcie was not known for her cooking skills but she was the sweetest woman on earth and got her disposition from my grandmother Nanny......I will never forget the cookouts at their house where she served shake and bake chicken and hotdogs with a dubious unnatural pink color.....served in a foil container on the stove......always flies buzzing around the watermelon.....but we ate it regardless....no air conditioning..hot as hell......but it was always an event...I would mow their lawn and he would pay me $5.....I also mowed Mrs Wheaters yard across the street from him as well and would have to move her heavy wrought iron yard furniture to mow her dusty yard when I was in the 6th grade........but she always rewarded me with $5 and a coke that was served in a tall aluminum cup with crushed ice..........Uncle Russ always wore his hair cut into a flat top....Bermuda shorts.....black socks that came to his knees.....and a pipe.....I would think of questions to ask him such as...what does HMS mean on naval ships.....and two hours later... he would just be finishing up his dissertation on the subject.....puffing on his pipe on the yellow sofa with my watercolor of the dunes hanging behind him........yep he was my favorite......he became a lawyer and raised bees in Virginia in the hills of Roanoke/Lynchburg area.......all I have is his memory and this metal whale he gave me when I was 5....and I have kept it as my good luck whale ever since........Mayberry by the sea....small town America at its finest..
