This is the type of photography I am doing with my Nikon D3200 and a Nikkor Auto Focus Zoom AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens. I’d like to upgrade to a 400mm+ lens or appropriate teleconveter. When I checked with Nikon regarding a teleconverter for my Nikkor Auto Focus Zoom AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens they said, “Unfortunately, we do not have a teleconverter that is compatible with your lens.” Nikon also states “this camera (D3200) supports autofocus with AF-S and AF-I CPU lenses only. And my site searches has not produced a compatible lens greater than 300mm. Am I missing something? Additionally searching Amazon I find what listed as a “High-Power 500mm/1000mm f/8 Manual Telephoto Lens for $139.” Then there is a “Rokinon 500mm f/6.3 Multi-Coated Mirror Lens with 2x Teleconverter $155.” But I’m leary of cheap lens and would rather stick to a Nikon product if there is one.
