This is to address the recent article about Anthony Pasquale and Autumn’s Estate filing suit against some officers, the county, etc. I did not speak to, nor do I speak for Anthony or anyone in the Pasquale family. I am simply looking at this as an advocate, and represent my opinion only. -Jess 1.Just so everyone knows this civil suit is not new. As a matter of fact Tony and his lawyers saw the flaw very early on and even filed a tort (or a document showing possible legal action) against the people/organizations mentioned in the court documents, mere months after Autumn’s Death. Which is exactly why The Gloucester County Prosecutors Office stepped back and why the Camden County Prosecutors took over. This clearly shows that they saw these issues/flaws well before the criminal proceedings even took place; this was in motion before the trial even was, let alone the initial civil suit against the killer’s parents. So the notion that this “Gold digger” father is adding yet another frivolous civil suit is simply incorrect and offensive. I can assure you that there is much more details about what happened and what was reported to have happened, that would help people further understand the legal actions taken. However, anyone associated with the case is under a very strict order not to comment, or even clarify things. As a violent crime victim myself I’m asking people to understand how hard and frustrating it is for a family and those involved, not being able to come right out and address things. So please reserve your judgment, or at least remember that this is a murder victim who cannot respond directly when someone says he is exploiting his beloved child’s heinous murder to make money or get attention. Imagine how hard that is not to respond to. Expressing your opinion is one thing, but please put yourself in that situation before making accusations where you do not know all the facts. You have only heard the parts of the case that were allowed to be revealed at the time. Actions that may seem crass or over the top in the dark, may look a lot differently in the light. 3.I’ve seen people say “My heart breaks for him and his child should not have been killed, but this is not the way to get closure”, or “He’s doing it for the money”. Tony is NOT doing this for closure, as any victim knows, there is simply no such thing. Tony is doing this to try to protect/prevent future victims, and has to do it civilly. This is also why people assume or blindly say he is doing it for the money. That simply isn’t the case and anyone familiar with the system will be able to know how much resources, energy, and most of all emotion that it takes to take on something like this. As a matter of fact the family have turned down many many offers of all sorts that would take much less involvement/emotion and yield more money, based solely on the fact that they wanted to protect Autumn’s memory and not let people exploit it for mere gain. The opportunities they did take were not for money and were taken in the hopes of spreading awareness about what happened to Autumn, and changes that needed to be made. As an advocate and victim of violent crime myself, I can tell you that people (no matter how smart) think or assume they know how the system works, what rights they do or don’t have, and what they can do about something if that system fails. It is way more complicated than people think and sometimes the way you think things will be handled, does not end up the way they should have or you expected them to be. So if you are a victim and you see a change that needs to happen or a correction that needs to be made, and no one is doing what they should, do you do what you can or just leave it to the next battered soul who had their child ripped from them? Tony has opted to try do something through the channels available to him which happens to *possibly* (but IS NOT LIMITED TO) include money. That does not automatically mean he is doing it for the money; that means he is using what is available to him to make a change and try to help other families. Changes in policy are not always voluntarily made (as we too often see), they are not always eligible through the criminal system rather than the civil one, but does that mean that a change shouldn’t or doesn’t need to be made? 4.Whether you agree or disagree please remember the sensitivity of the situation. Don’t get into massive, bitter, and disrespectful feuds online; no one wins when that happens. Race, creed, or religion, have nothing to do with any of this, and neither should violent, hateful language. This is a family that lived through hell, and even if you think they are misguided or making the wrong decisions, they are human and should be respected as such. Also support or non-support coming all at a single time can sometimes be overwhelming to many victims, so please do not take that personally or assume someone wants to “dodge” questioning. 5. Autumns Law is not the same as this new suit. They are both about preventing another death and the surrounding situations, but they are different, with their own merit, and should not just be lumped together. They have very different procedures and reasons for being.
