This is to all my fellow Facebook friends and family who start to struggle this time of year like I do. The holidays are over, and it seems as though cold weather and short days will never end. I know it seems dorky but it really is a hard time for a lot of people, so here are some tips and reminders that help me through these next couple months. Walk! Or at least be outside even for just ten minutes. I know its cold and windy; bundle up and go some where you can be shielded from harsh winds! Breathe in the fresh air and let it fill you with good energy. Dont focus so much on the cold, its only temporary and you will be home with a cup of tea or cocoa eventually. Do word searches, puzzles, or get a little creative coloring or doodling for an hour. Stimulate your mind with something other than work, sitting online, playing video games. Or binge watching shows on Netflix (I am guilty of this sometimes😁) Take vitamins! Vitamins can sometimes be a little pricey depending on what you get, but save your pennies! The benefit of taking them goes a long way. For this time of year I recommend tumeric and St. Johns wort to help with your mood, spirulina powder to keep your immune system strong. (Come to the Co-op and I can toss some tumeric or spirulina in your smoothie!!) Meditate! I know some people say this isnt for them, but there are many forms of meditation and its easy to find one to suit you. Knitting is a form of meditation. Find a line from a favorite poem or pick a word that inspires you. Close your eyes and repeat it for even just 5-10 minutes. Just lay with your eyes closed and listen to instrumental music for 10 minutes. This will strengthen you in ways you dont even realize if you utilize it and make a routine! You dont have to empty your mind just let thoughts come and then let them go. Go out whenever you can! Embrace going to the grocery store, running errands, try and go out to dinner a little more or see some movies. Make more plans so you have more to look forward to. After the holidays during these cold months it seems a lot harder to get together with family and friends, everyones tired, busy, doing their own thing. Dont hold it against them or take it personally if plans fall through. This time of year is rough for everyone! Make plans with yourself if you have to. Do some winter activities! No, youre never too old to play in the snow! Wait for a warmer day if the cold is too much for you. Go sledding, build a snow man, go snow shoeing. Another thing that helps put my mind to ease is knowing that winter WILL end. The days are getting longer and longer, the sun is setting later every night. That is a happy thought. Everything is temporary, sadness, anger, despair, winter!!!! Be happy you woke up today because not everyone got to! This got a little lengthy but its because I care and I dont want anyone to feel alone this time of year, hope some of this helps somebody and they take the initiative to change some of their habits. These things can help you all year round too, but now especially is when I feel its most important. Sending love to you all!!!
