This is to my dear friends that are trying to compare Windows - TopicsExpress

This is to my dear friends that are trying to compare Windows Phone to Android. First off, I would like to point out that I am not an Android Fan Boy. I have lots of gadgets running different OS’s. I love them all. Each was chosen for a reason. My 2 year old daughters use an iPad because it’s very strong and reliable. It can take a beating and is quite water resistant. My Laptop is running Windows 7 (I downgraded from windows 8, but that’s a new topic for a new day). I have a Samsung Note 2 of course running Android Kit Kat (haven’t upgraded yet, I see no need at the moment), I have a Galaxy tab running Android Kit Kat, I have a Blackberry BlackBerry Torch 9800 for my office emails and Macbook pro lying around in my office. Each gadget does its own work. Just like each farm animal is assigned a different role on a farm. They are all livestock but we will not use a goat to haul a cart will we? I love Windows. Yeah, sure I feel Microsoft is having teething problems on Windows 8 right now, primarily because I feel it’s too ahead of its time, and Microsoft still need to tweak it around a bit before its perfect, but its promising. You need to understand one thing; Windows does well in PCs and laptops. It was meant to do that. It was designed for computing. Plus, it’s been around long enough to make it very possible for almost anyone to develop for it. Some of the best video games are Windows based. Android apps are coded on Windows Machines. But that’s Windows for PCs and laptops, not phones. The there is a big difference. The other day, me and a friend (Moonga Chinika) were talking about how much we would love to own the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. That’s a solid device and its running Windows 8. It’s a Laptop and thats what Windows does best. We have lots of Android note books and Chrome books around but even we Android lovers know that thats an area in which Windows and OS rule. We dont try to bark up that fence. We might get hurt. If you are going to compare the versatility of an OS, you have to do it right. Windows 8 on your Laptop and Phone are two very different Operating Systems. So from the get go, let’s just settle that. Windows Mobile failed miserably, that’s a fact. Palm Treo, iMate, HTC HD2/HD7… Good devices killed by a horrific OS riddled with bugs. However, Windows Phone is a major improvement. It has a better interface and looks nice. Windows Phone is just trying to take on the mobile phone realm, and that’s good. Competition is healthy. However, you need to understand that just like sports such as boxing; MMA and other contact sports have it classes or weight divisions, so doe’s technology. Apple’s iOS and Android are in the heavyweights right now. Windows Phone and Blackberry are Cruiser-weights. They are in a class of their own. Sure, they can last longer in the ring because they are lighter and probably faster on their feet (rim shot). But the heavy weights pack huge punches and do more work. They take on huger challenges and they have diverse techniques. (Wink) Tsk tsk tsk tsk... Windows Phone fan boys? I never thought I would see the day. Why dont you guys go down to Blackberry Avenue and throw firecrackers in their yard. There is a big Android - iOS war going on here. You guys might get hurt. Pull down feature for settings? Over The Air updates? Wow, thats some real advancement. (Laughs silently) Guys, please. Please, for the love of gadgets, let’s be real. Battery life? On two different OSs running on the same device? (HTC M8) Thats a no brainner. Of course the Windows phone will use less battery and have more standby time because it’s doing less work. What does the average Windows Phone guy do half the time? Playing with the tiles and; re-sizing them, rearranging them, renaming them and changing the UI color scheme from pink to blue. The Android guy on the other hand, is using Themer to replace his stock theme, probably has Google now installed, using a custom keyboard like SWYPE to type, Share apps, contacts, photos, and music just by tapping phones via Android Beam, using facial recognition to unlock apps, discovering new features they didnt know the device can do out of the box etc. The lack of high-quality new apps in its app store kills Windows Phone. Do you know why? The lack of developer support by Microsoft. Look, the only reason why 3 quarters of Android devices are cheap is because the OS is offered free of charge to the manufactures. Even you can make a phone today and I guarantee you, it will run Android because you do not need any permission from Google to use the OS. Android can work on anything, that’s the beauty of it. It can work on anything with a processor and storage. Android fridges, Android cars, Android televisions, Android set-top boxes, Android cameras, Android fridges, Android games consoles, Android smart home automation, Android Smartglass, Android Smart watches, Android Smartphones, Android Notebooks, Android Car stereos, Android Tablets, and get this, Android Smart canes for the blind… the list grows every day. That’s the power of versatility.
