This is well worth reading. We think of Rick as a travel writer, but he is also an amazing philosopher. Americans are among the most insular and fear -wracked people in the world. And those who sloganize about the home of the brave seem to be the most fearful. Afraid to go out of their house in Chico without being armed! One of the best cures is to get out and see the world, see other people, learn about people different than yourself. Cant count the number of people whove told me I was brave to go bike touring or hiking independently in France - Uh? - this is FRANCE were talking about - not a war zone.
