This is what I posted to the Press-Citizen article on the contentious Johnson County Justice Center "Listening Post": "First of all, this issue is a direct result of the irresponsibility of the County Supervisors for well over a quarter century to secure a solution to this problem, which is not merely a population problem. The overall lack of Supervisor planning that serves the public is obvious, and many opportunities for a step-by-step land acquisition and new justice center relocation has been ignored. Many suitable real estate sites have gone for-sale for a number of years only to be much-later sold for development. Constructing the new justice center integrated jail and court system does not have to occur immediately or all-at-once. Secondly, the proponents of the new jail have absolutely no consideration for the community, they only want to build an architectural monstrosity that demeans from the community esthetics, which is not a minor issue. They have absolutely no respect for the historic nature of our current court house, which itself is an architectural treasure, one of the few beautiful court houses in our state. And thirdly, our Supervisors -- and Iowa City Council - are pro-developer anyway, ashamed of our agricultural heritage and eager to destroy our city and our county with development that will only bring more population with its crime and poverty, rather than to enhance normal population growth with suitable representation of our current residents - - rather than favoring future residents over the needs of our current residents." -- Libris Fidelis
