This is what Jelena for President will bring to you: 1. Accessible Participation: This year’s council did a terrific job of doing a full revamp. GCSU has grown from being a simple school council to a professional organization, working together to create change at Glendon, with the students in mind. As president, my goal is to continue to work with the council, as well as the student body as a whole, to provide accessible participation for all Glendonites. I believe that all students, whether commuting or living on res, should have equal access to all the services and events GCSU seeks to provide for its campus. Alongside the VP Clubs and the VP Social, I will ensure that all pub night events are booked two weeks prior to the event date, allowing for students to manage their schedules accordingly. Instating a policy with the VP Finance and the VP Social regarding a 5$ maximum entry fee to pub nights is another one of my future presidential initiatives to avoid students being unable to attend due to low funds. Working with the VP Operations, I will improve the services available in the office, including scanning and faxing services. As the VP Campaigns and Advocacy position continues to grow, I will encourage campaigns that cover a variety of areas including academics, charity and student life. 2. Inclusivité Bilingue: Dans un campus comme Glendon, où plusieurs langues dominent, mon bilinguisme sera un point fort. Je mefforce de permettre à tous les étudiants, peu importe la langue dans laquelle ils préfèrent communiquer, dêtre en mesure de profiter des services offerts par lAÉCG. Une solide communication en anglais et en français sera disponible à tous les étudiants, permettant linclusivité bilingue. En collaboration avec le VP bilingue, je vais promouvoir les possibilités daugmenter le bilinguisme sur le campus et hors du campus. L’AÉCG va organiser des événements bilingues en conjonction avec dautres groupes à Glendon, comme le Salon francophone, et les clubs francophones. Comme il a eu des problèmes au sein du programme FSL, je crois que lAÉCG peut aider à créer un changement en travaillant avec le VP bilingue ainsi que le ou la VP campagnes et plaidoyer ainsi que les sénateurs, pour organiser des évènements dintégration des élèves francophones au sein de la communauté francophone. 3. Unparalleled Quality: A president is one that needs to be able to connect with people on many different levels, maintaining a professional level while also being a friendly and familiar face on campus. I want to connect with the student body collectively and individually in order to enhance their experience at Glendon. Glendon is not just our school, it’s our home. In order to fully succeed as president, it will be pertinent that I form a connection with each council member to create a strong team, helping to empower each member in order for them to fulfill their duties, while also finding their passion. As senators represent the student body within the academics, and sit on the highest academic governing board at York University, it is important to encourage that their contributions be noted on campus. I will be working with our future senators to raise awareness about student caucus meetings where students can voice their opinions. Empowering councillors and first year reps will also be one of my continuous initiatives, as they are the ones who bring the energy and passion, helping to keep council together and liaising between the students and the GCSU council.
