This is what , Kathleen A. Donovan Snavely, teacher at Fulton Elementary said after she was adopted by the community via LEF - When the heavy box of books purchased with Adopt-A-Classroom funds arrived at Fulton Elementary School, a feeding frenzy materialized. The whole class spontaneously gathered to see each book emerge. Inside were gorgeous non-fiction texts for readers at several levels, published with National Geographics famous photography. Additionally, students pulled out chapter books with themes familiar to them in their home countries: flowers, butterflies, fast cars, snakes, tigers, and more. Equally popular were two picture books illustrated with exquisite watercolors: one on the elephant god, Ganesh, and the other, Rudyard Kiplings The Elephants Child. Altogether, about 50 books were purchased for Fulton ELL students. Even reluctant readers found books they wanted to see immediately. Several volumes inspired waiting lists for which student would get a particular book next- without a word from me! It was a teachers dream to draw up a list of titles custom-chosen for my students, who often begin their schooling in this country with very little English. All of us are truly grateful to the church who adopted our classroom. Next year, the joy continues with a new group of students and a well-stocked classroom library.
