This is why we cant get past race in this country. There is a painful and shameful past full of transgressions beyond todays rational comprehension. Until we truly address Americas ugly past, we will continue to spiral down the path of minimization, marginalization, accusations, and mistrust. All of which serve to tear this country further apart. As a Black man, my patriotism only goes so far because of stories like these and the countless accounts of Jim Crow, Segregation, Roswell, Black Wall Street, police harassment and profiling, and generalized fear mongering by hate groups. The irony is, despite all of this, I am willing and want to get beyond this. What I need is acknowledgement, an apology (group, not individual), and a truly level playing field. Is that too much to ask? Is it too shameful for the majority to come to grips with acts that they themselves did not commit but benefitted from directly (or indirectly)? I dont normally do posts like this because I have a diverse group of friends and I dont want to make them uncomfortable, because they may think I am bitter or insincere. Please believe me when I say that Im not. I just have a hard time reconciling my personal experiences with those of my people. I thank you for letting me rant. This video was extremely disturbing to me...
