This isnt the first GMO adjacent article/post I have seen from Grist. I say adjacent because they havent exactly been clearly pro-GMO but they have glossed over the evidence that GMOs are risky and very likely harmful. In this article they argue that proving GMO safety is like proving that walking down the street is safe. Well, theres a big difference between walking down the street and modifying the RNA/DNA of living things that are eaten by animals and people. The amount of caution in any undertaking should correspond to the amount of risk in it. Walking down a busy street in broad daylight wearing brightly colored clothing is a lot safer than walking down and dark alley in a violent neighborhood wearing brightly colored clothing. GMOs are a lot like the dark alley scenario. We should not take their potential for harm lightly. It really makes me wonder where Grists funding/loyalties lie.
