This issue is more than just about taxis. Its about what sort of society we want to live in; one in which big business can pick and choose whatever laws they want to abide by; dont pay tax or GST whatsoever; dont meet any of their societal responsibilities; exist to just make big profits for people who already have a lot whilst wiping their hands of all responsibility; and lie and mislead the public without sanction, while the rest of us carry the load; paying all our taxes; fulfilling our responsibilities to deliver outcomes for the community and in so doing hopefully making a profit. We need your help, dont let big businesses like Uber keep screwing our country, taking from our society and give nothing back, please sign our petition, we need your help! Uber want to make money and take no responsibility for whatever crap they deliver. Customers are raped by untrained drivers who have not been through criminal checks, no thats not Ubers responsibility because (and I quote) they are only an app provider, they dont provide transport services. Taxis are tracked 24/7 with the data retained for years and each taxi has a state of the art security camera system to protect both drivers and customers. Taxi companies are required by law to meet these standards. So why not Uber, what makes them exempt??? An untrained, uninsured Uber driver kills a young child on a pedestrian crossing, seriously injuring a mother and another child. No, no, no not thats Ubers fault, they are only an app provider not a transport provider, so its not their responsibility that the driver was uninsured. The victims of Ubers lies and deceit have to go to court to try and get something for their medical bills and loss. In Queensland our taxis are fully insured and by law have to have $20 million of public liability cover. You wont find one Uber vehicle which meets that standard. So what makes Uber so special that they dont have to fully insure their cars??? Worst still is that Uber then lies to everyone, continuously claiming that, their drivers are criminally checked and their cars are fully insured, when they are not!!! Just tell that to the poor 19 year old girl in Melbourne raped on New Years day by a Uber driver who was not trained or not forced to undergo police checks. What about the laws about deceptive and misleading conduct under the Consumer Protection Act, wheres the ACCC in this space??? If a taxi company behaved in such a way theyd be in court and out of business! Come on guys we need your help, dont let big foreign companies cheat and lie with impunity and no commitment to our country. Dont let them play by their own laws and delivering nothing in terms of community obligations, while Australian businesses made up of Australian mums and dads work hard to satisfy the laws we all believe in.
