This just happened! My son and I were standing in line at a store cashier. The woman in line behind me is looking at me and we smile politely at each other. She says, “Do you live here?” I said, “Yes.” She said, “Are you a singer?” I said, “Yes.” She said, “You’re Rich Wyman.” I said, “Yes.” She tells me that her son Dusty was paralyzed in a car accident, it must have been ten years ago. I had put together a benefit concert for him and performed. She asks if I remember. It starts to come back to me and I said, “Yes, I remember, it was at the Eccles Center.” She says, “Yes!” So I asked, “How is Dusty doing?” She tells me that he is married and has two beautiful children. She shows me pictures of a large family gathering around Dusty in his wheelchair with a beautiful wife and children, surrounded by lots of smiling faces. She says to me, “That concert was a turning point in our lives. Things just started getting better and better from that day on. She says, “Can I hug you?” I said, “Yes.” We hugged for a few moments and she said, “I love you.” I said, “I love you too.” We smiled at each other and I walked away. My son asked me what that was all about and I told him the story and got tears in my eyes. I said to my son, That was ten years ago, at the time it just seemed like the right thing to do so I made a few phone calls made it happen. I did the show and I haven’t really thought about it much since then. It’s amazing how a simple act of kindness that doesn’t take much work can have a huge impact on someone else’s life, in this case a whole family. Happy Holidays and Lots of love to you all, Rich Wyman
