This just in from Classic Air Force: Classic Air Force (CAF), based at Newquay-Cornwall Airport, is making a high profile appearance at this week’s Farnborough Air Show. The biennial show runs until Sunday, culminating with a massive air display on both days at the weekend. Classic is not only participating in the Aerospace in Cornwall exhibit in Hall 1 (stand 9) but is joining the world’s great in aviation by having aircraft in the static park. Having flown up specially from Newquay is a de Havilland Dragon Rapide 1940’s commuter aircraft, Percival Provost RAF trainer, and it successor the Jet Provost. CAF’s Percival Prentice is getting involved too. The public weekend is sponsored by Airbus Group, and will feature A380, A350 and A320 series plus aircraft of an earlier era. Hopefully flying (these old aircraft are somewhat fragile) is the Classic Air Force Meteor T7, said to be the world’s oldest twin jet still serviceable, and a de Havilland Vampire, Britain’s original single-engined jet fighter, again operated by the Newquay Airport visitor attraction. “We are very proud to have been invited to this year’s Farnborough,” said Trevor Bailey, who manages Classic Air Force’s aircraft operation. “We will be talking to people from all over the world who have expressed an interest in our work at Newquay in keeping these elderly aircraft flying. The Meteor T7 (two-seat trainer) is quite unique, and Vampire is diminutive compared to its 21st century successor, the Typhoon.” Next weekend is going to be very busy at CAF Newquay with plenty of activities and aircraft movements. classicairforce
