This little boy on Manta Island in Raja Amput finds a trashed refrigerator door and turns it into a paddle board. Our plastic and their plastic float freely in the sea here and line the shores, sometimes even on otherwise pristine islands. In the West we smash and bury our plastic so its out of sight and out of mind but may never breakdown. In other parts of the world its in your face. It seems every container and most items are now made of cheap plastic. These islands never used to have this issue as food was local and wrapped in banana leaves. We must demand biodegradable plastic and containers. Cornstarch is already being use to this end; the technology exists, the will must follow!
