This little dachshund presented today for a cystotomy (bladder surgery) to remove some bladder stones. Dogs and cats with frequent or recurrent bladder infections should be radiographed to check for urinary stones (calculi). Some small stones will pass out in the urine and never cause problems. However, in most cases an owner will see their pet posturing to urinate more frequently and/or posturing to urinate with little or no output. We will submit one of this dogs stones to the University of Minnesotas Calculus Lab for analysis. Once analyzed we may then place this dog on a specific diet or medication to lower the incidence of future stone formation.
