This little girl came to our rescue (judgespark.org) a few weeks ago. She was apparently bought to be fed to an alligator, but when the alligator didnt eat her, she escaped into this persons house and ran loose for 3 months until they finally caught her again living off macaw food. Needless to say, she was essentially feral when she arrived. For the first 15 minutes she was a madwoman trying to get away until I finally just bit the bullet, scooped her up into my arms and wrapped her in my sweater. A few minutes later her body relaxed. Then she started bruxing. Then she crawled up on my shoulder and started grooming herself. She realized that I wasnt going to hurt her! Today, while we were in a bonding session with my other rat girls, she came running over, dove into my lap and crawled up on my shoulder where she sat there happily for the next half an hour. Rats are so resilient...were not adopting her out because I think she deserves a good spoiled retirement with us and our rattie girls.
