This looks fun! Free children’s concert with brass and percussion (QUINCY) “Fire in the Big-Top!”, a musical tale for narrator, brass, and percussion, will be performed by the Fenway Brass Quintet on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 am at St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Quincy. The church is located at 1 Linden St (corner of Hancock St.), is one block from the Red Line, and is fully accessible. More information is available at stcquincy.org or 617-472-0737. “Fire in the Big-Top!” tells the story of Tom and Maggie, two kids growing up in the 1890’s, who save their town when a fire breaks out at the circus. In this interactive performance, children sing along with the musicians, make “fire sounds”, and learn about the brass and percussion instruments while they hear the story set to music. The piece is suitable for elementary school children and younger, and lasts about 40 minutes. After the concert, attendees will have the chance to see the brass and percussion instruments up-close and meet the musicians. “Fire in the Big-Top!” was composed by Quincy resident and Wheaton College music professor Delvyn Case, who has been involved in numerous community music events in Quincy over the past decade. It was originally commissioned by the Portland Symphony Orchestra, which performed it at schools and libraries across the state of Maine during the 2012-13 concert season. The Fenway Quintet has been entertaining audiences in the Greater Boston area since 2006. In this time, they have quickly established themselves as one of the area’s most esteemed professional brass quintets. The Fenway Quintet is equally driven to present its audience with a concert going experience that will entertain and delight with a sampling of all musical genres as well as providing musical education programs to area youth. Fenway’s members have attended some of the nations finest colleges and conservatories such as Boston University, New England Conservatory, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, and the Eastman School of Music. They can be seen locally performing with the Atlantic Symphony, Symphony New Hampshire, Indian Hill Symphony, New Bedford Symphony, and many others.
