Im not a soccer aficionado by any means but this is what I think Mexico needs to do to improve their chances next time if its important enough for them to make a better showing on the world stage of soccer in 2018 and this is on top of playing a smarter game on the field, but what would benefit the next national teams for years to come is to stimulate the sport of soccer more at the lower levels of the equation by creating more organized programs that attract more kids, and the best athletes with the most talent. To make the institution of soccer stronger by creating a more hyper competitive environment that requires excellence at the higher levels. Arizonas thriving club team programs for teenagers would be a great model to look at. There are soccer moms in this country who seem to sacrifice and give everything to the sport for their teenaged daughters. Trust me I know two of them who live in Arizona. (Belin, Laura.) Haha! And this creates a momentum that builds on itself. Mexico needs to expand their club programs for kids, improve the coaching and programs for high schools and universities so that more elite athletes rise to the national level. It takes time but little by little the game will see steady boosts in performance. Mexico has the talent and everything it takes to make it to quarterfinals someday. Mexican style soccer needs to become more defined and needs to be effective. I saw a lack of team mentality on the field today and in most of Mexicos previous games that was disappointing. When you see Brazil or Spain play there is a palpable difference in the team dynamic on the field that translates into more possession, more shots, more field goals. Chicharito, Ochoa, this guy that guy, heros, amazing athletes, all being lauded as supermen but when it came down to the wire Ochoa let 2 right in for Mexico. He was getting hit by the ball all game long, blocking them in the process obviously and holding his ground like a true soldier. The team should master several plays in their repertoire and then be able to execute them when they feel it coming. Play together as a team. As one. The whole. Not just a few players making the plays, but whoever needs to make the plays. Did Ochoa stop being superman during most important part of the match? Maybe not but Mexico needs to play as one and use the skills and talents of all of the players wisely in an orchestrated and artful coordinated effort. That being said I think its incredibly difficult to make it though to the 2nd round and Mexico did a beautiful job of achieving another milestone in soccer for the national team at the World Cup, but it would be awesome for them to get to the quarter finals and semifinals and the final someday because it just makes sense for them to be able to do that. Its a soccer nation. Costa Rica did it just a few hours ago. Mexico can to, and that achievement would serve the country well. They are incredibly effective in the drug trade and producing rich politicians and some of the brightest college students in the world, now find a flippin way to do that with soccer programs. Peñanieto, Telmex, Lala, Pemex, Cemex, the kingpins, the actors of televisa and TV Azteca, all of the governors in Mexico and Carlos Slim should subsidize soccer more and other things less.
