This month, were celebrating Read A Romance Month by sharing Real Life Romance Moments from my wonderful readers. This one from Jeanne K made me smile! We were newly engaged and headed to San Diego for the volleyball final four when Rich said,There isnt a game on Friday. We could go to Las Vegas and get married! Instantly the good and the bad news hit me. We wouldnt have to decide whose home town to marry in so nobody would be left out or offended. But..just six months before my dear friends daughter planned a Vegas wedding (complete with Elvis) and I said, Oh, dear. Vegas. How tacky. Still, the good won. We flew to Vegas in the morning, planning to return at 5:30--surely we could finish whatever had to be done by then. We told the cab driver to take us to City Hall. Aw. Youre getting married, arent you? He wasnt thrown off by the fact that we were retirement age. Tell ya what Ill do. Ill take you to the Hall and show you the door to use. Ill turn off the meter and wait for you. Then Ill take you to the chapel where me and my wife got married. And that he did. The chapel was understated and lovely, and the young woman who conducted the ceremony (apparently a show girl in other hours) was in a tasteful black suit open to the navel. But she made the ceremony somehow personal and sweet. We bought photos and paid for the ceremony--well under $50. And there was Joe the cab driver waiting. He zipped us to the airport--where we asked if we could change to an earlier flight. Gate 2--leaving in 10 minutes! We were back in San Diego in time for lunch, with lovely memories of how a cab driver became our wedding planner. P.S. We celebrate 15 years in December! #RARM #vegas
