This morning I heard a great message on fasting. As Jesus (Yeshua) said we shouldnt look gloomy or fast to be seen by others or to get praise from people (Matthew 6:17-19.) Instead we should fast to learn to focus on what is greater, God and His Kingdom! When we fast we can learn dependency on Christ and find satisfaction in Him. I personally overcame an addiction when I changed my focus from what I was giving up to what I would gain. I stopped counting how long I had been successful in staying away from what was harmful to seeking God with all my heart and finding fulfillment in Him instead. When I did that, the pleasures of addiction that gave me a brief escape as I tried to run from reality didnt compare to the joy and peace that I find in learning to trust and follow Him! This makes me think of the song Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. Life gets so much simpler when I just look to Him!
